Arnold Wood Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Solimine Funeral Homes - Broadway on Mar. 31, 2026.
Arnold "Arnie" Seton Wood Jr., 84, of Swampscott, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at The Mariner in Marblehead, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 10, 1941, he was the beloved son of the late Arnold Seton Wood Sr. and Barbara Hariett (Bloomfield) Wood.

Born and raised in Marblehead, Arnie received his early education at Glover School before attending Governor Dummer Academy and Trinity College, and later the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College. He went on to build an exceptional career in finance, holding key roles at State Street Bank and as a trustee and senior vice president of Batterymarch Financial Management. He ultimately became co-founder, president, and chief executive officer of Martingale Asset Management. Deeply committed to his profession, he was also the author of numerous articles, including "Fatal Attractions for Money Managers," "The Plan: Trustees Under Duress," "Behavioral Finance & Investment Committee Decision Making," and "Manager vs. Client: What Is the Difference?"

Arnie was a Trustee of the Research Foundation of the CFA Institute and a former Governor of the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR). He served as Chairman of the Financial Analysts Journal Committee and was a founding member and president of the International Society of Security Analysts. He received prestigious awards from AIMR, including the Daniel J. Forrestal Leadership Award for Professional Ethics and Standards of Practice and the Leadership in Global Investing Award. Arnie also served as a faculty advisor for a Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government study on behavioral finance and decision-making.

Arnie cared deeply about his community. He was actively involved with the Lynn Boys & Girls Club and took great pride in participating in the Boston Partners Big Cheese Read Program. He served on the Board of Directors at Governor's Academy and was a dedicated member of several local organizations, including Tedesco Country Club, the Beach Club, Eastern Yacht Club, and Essex County Club. In his free time, he loved traveling, spending summers on Lake Sunapee with his family, playing golf and tennis, and pursuing his passion for boating. Most of all, he loved being with his grandchildren and family, sharing his wisdom and teaching by example how to live well and be a good person.

Arnie will be dearly missed and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne (Meyer) Wood; his loving children, A. Seton Wood III and his wife Kathleen, Esther P. Wood Satran and her husband Thomas, and Adam R. Wood and his wife Karen; and his cherished grandchildren, Emmaline Wood, Erin Wood, Hannah Satran, Haley Wood, and Tyler Wood, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Joan Stephenson and her husband P. Tapley Stephenson, and Barbara Emmons and her husband Deighton Emmons.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date
