Art passed away peacefully in his sleep after spending several weeks in hospice care surrounded by his loving daughter Karen in
Wichita Falls, Texas.
Art was born in El Paso, Texas to Sophia Ramirez. He was blessed to be raised and nurtured by his caring grandfather Miguel Ramirez. Art is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Elizabeth Ramirez, whom he was faithfully married to for 56 years. Art loved and cherished Joyce since he first heard her voice over the hospital intercom where they both worked, Art as an orderly and Joyce as a switchboard operator. He was instantly taken by her angelic voice and made every effort to meet her, and after courting for six months, they were married in Whittier California on March 22, 1969.
Art was the oldest of seven siblings, in which he was more than a brother; he was a protector, provider, and father-figure. His love for family was his signature and he silently cared for his loved ones over and over again. This steadfast love was most evident when Art and Joyce started a family and raised two children, Karen and Stephen. Art tirelessly worked hard to provide and create a stable and safe home for his wife and children.
Art's dream was to become an architect and with dedication and perseverance he made his mark as an architectural drafter, and eventually a civil drafter, for 30 years. He became the best at his trade, drafting and designing many structures and custom homes that still stand today throughout Riverside County. He loved his profession and his workmanship was demonstrated by his skill with a pencil and a T-square. In 2008, Art fulfilled a life-long goal of his when he designed and built his custom dream home in
Hesperia, CA. The true benefactors of his rewarding career was his family, Joyce and his two children, who were always cared for and never had a doubt Art would provide and care for them. Besides drafting, Art loved trains, and he spent many hours in his retirement years building model railroads. His mind could never leave the world of designing and creating, and this transferred to his lifelong interest in trains and building new worlds through model railroading.
The true apple of Art's eye was definitely his grandchildren. Becoming a grandpa was his greatest accomplishment. Every time he held a grandbaby his face would light up and he would smile from ear to ear. His lasting legacy will be of a faithful husband, caring father, and proud grandpa - he cherished and loved all his family with every fiber of his being.
Art is survived by his children, Karen Ramirez, and Stephen and Cristina Ramirez, his grandchildren, Amanda Dellinger, Jessica Dellinger, Elijah Ramirez, Kelsie Ramirez, and Kaitlyn Ramirez, and his great grandkids, Rhylynn, Wyatt, and Brett, and Kaiden and Kennedy. He is also survived by his six siblings, Nina Lopez, Ces Dotson, David Poblano, Carlos Poblano, Grace Moran, and Sylvia Barnett. Art's life touched all his family and those in his profession in a most profound way, he was respected and cherished by so many – his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, and so many others were blessed to know Art Ramirez.
Special thanks to all who worked with Art in his final weeks battling cancer and to all the family and friends who provided prayers, love, and support. A special thank you to Beyond Faith Hospice of
Wichita Falls, TX for their amazing service to Art and most of all to his daughter Karen for her tireless and committed care around the clock. A special thank you to Marty Myers, who supported Karen through this time and patiently assisted Art during his last days.
Art and Joyce are together again, at each other's side holding hands as they were in life. And now Art's hope is in what scripture says in 2 Corinthians 5:1, "When we die we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands."
A memorial and funeral service will be held for both Art and Joyce Ramirez at Rose Hills Memorial Park in
Whittier, CA in March 2026.
