Arthur "Art" E. Bryant, 77 years young, passed away in his sleep on March 29, 2025 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, in Scarborough, Maine surrounded by his wife and children. Art had a full life. Art joined the Army in June 1967, right after his High School graduation. He spent 18 months outside of Istanbul, Turkey with the engineering unit. Art came home on leave in May of 1969 and married Judith Mary Coutermarsh on May 13th, 1969. This year they would have celebrated 56 years together.
Art spent his last year of service at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia. Art moved his wife and newborn baby back home to Vermont over the Fourth of July weekend in 1970. In 1971, Art and Judy built a home in Perkinsville, Vermont where they raised their 3 boys and continued to live in, to this day. Once home from the Army, Art started working at Howard and Barlow as a building contractor. He worked there a few years before Art and Stan Pawlowski started their own remodeling business together. Two years later, Stan retired and "Arthur Bryant Building and Remodeling" was born. Art ran his own business for more than 45 years. Art was very active with his church for many years. He took great pride in all the projects he assisted with at the church and "in January 1986, an elevator was installed under the leadership of Art Bryant". This elevator is still in use today. Art was also an active member of the Good Sam's camping group spending years of summer weekends traveling and visiting many beautiful New England locations. When Art's 11 grandchildren were young, they spread out from Vermont to Maine. Art attended any sports game, concert or activity he could get to, to support his grandchildren.
Art leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Judy Bryant of Perkinville, Vermont. His oldest son Scott Andrew Bryant of Derby, Vermont. Scott's family, son Caleb Bryant of St. George, Utah, daughter Jillian Bryant of Derby, Vermont, daughter Rebecca Bryant and Art's only great-grandson Sebastian Solomon of Rexburg, Idaho and Natalie Bryant of Newdale, Idaho. Art's middle son Jeffrey Alan Bryant and fiancé Alesha Wedge and their 15 month old son Hudson Bryant of St. Albans, Vermont, Jeffrey's stepsons Isiah Thibault of Burlington, Vermont and Xavier Porter of St. Albans, Vermont. Art's youngest son Kevin Paul Bryant, his wife Desiree and their children, Caitlin Bryant and fiancé Kiel Lachapelle, Allison Bryant, Samuel Bryant and Tyler Bryant of South Portland, Maine. And Art's brother George Bryant, wife Kathy and nephew Gregory Bryant of Olathe, Kansas.
Art is predeceased by his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur and Marcella Basso, his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Everett and Marguerite Bryant and his Sister Nancy Bryant.
Art's services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at The Calvary Baptist Church, 156 Main St, Springfield, VT. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10am, Church Service will begin at 11am. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Cemetery Road, North Springfield, VT.
