Arthur Cain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Dec. 11, 2025.
Arthur (Sam) Ivan Cain, age 81, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on December 11, 2025, as he was called home to be with the Lord.

Born on December 16, 1943, in Rensselaer, Indiana, Arthur was the son of Ivan and Avinelle Cain. He graduated from Mt. Ayr High School, Class of 1961, and soon after he served terms in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. A hardworking and dedicated man, Arthur spent 47 years as an operating engineer with Local 150, proudly building a lasting career.

Arthur married Rose Marie on July 7, 1993, she preceded him in death.

Sam loved spending time outdoors, especially golfing and fishing with his family. He had a knack for finding a good bargain, particularly when it came to food and cold beer. He also enjoyed the thrill of car races and shows at the Jasper County Fairgrounds, which brought him great joy over the years.

Arthur is survived by his children: Tracey Stewart, Michele Risner, Brian (Shawn) Cain, Brad (Kara) Cain, Angela (Kevin) Bell, Tyler (Chrissy) Todd, and Chad (Kelly) Todd; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his brother Ronald (Jane) Cain; and many extended family members. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved dog and loyal companion, Cricket.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Avinelle Cain, his brother, William Cain, and his wife, Rose Marie Cain.

Sam will be remembered for his strength, humor, and the love he gave to those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Friends may call on the family on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM CT at Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 20 at 4:00 PM CT with Pastor Bill Taylor officiating. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.

Gone but not forgotten. We were neighbors for many years in Mt. Ayr and loved his kids very much. The boys were still in their playpen. My two daughters, Sheryl and Kim, both spent many hours helping out when needed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families.
