Dean Allen Summerfield, 58, of
Lafayette, IN passed away on February 18, 2026 after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Dean was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Dean was known for his caring and giving heart, his gift for conversation, and the fact that he truly never met a stranger. His warm smile and positive attitude could brighten any room.
Dean was well-traveled and shared a special bond with his father as they journeyed together through all 50 states. Of all the places he visited, Hawaii held a special place in his heart and Myrtle Beach remained his favorite getaway.
A true sports enthusiast, Dean loved football and baseball and faithfully cheered on his favorite teams: the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds, and the Harrison Raiders. His son, AJ Gabriel, was the boy Dean always dreamed of having, and he never missed one of AJ's games. AJ could always hear Dean's familiar whistle and his cheers from the stands.
Dean cherished time spent with his family. He enjoyed camping, playing darts, participating in recreational softball, and night fishing. He coached Kayla and Samie's softball teams for many years, sharing not only his love of the game but also his encouragement and pride. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends and found joy in giving to others.
Known for his sense of humor, Dean was a jokester who often laughed and said, "I'm not allowed." Even during everyday moments-like buying dog treats-he would grin and joke, "This is my dessert or dinner; this is all my wife will give me."
Dean was baptized at Good Shepherd Baptist Church and lived his life with gratitude, faith, and a heart for others. On February 13, 2026, he and his beloved wife, Kelly, celebrated 33 years of marriage, a testament to their love and dedication to one another.
Dean is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Summerfield of
West Lafayette, Indiana; his mother, Evelyn Summerfield of Lafayette; and his stepmother, Kay Summerfield of Clarks Hill. He is also survived by his children: Brittany Blacker (Jonathan) of Brookston; Kayla Rowland (Andrew Riley) of Linden; Samie D. Huffer (Mark) of Fort Hood, Texas; Amber Summerfield of Lafayette; Lacey Bryant (Travis) of Lafayette; and his cherished son, AJ Gabriel of
West Lafayette, IN. He is further survived by his sister, Crystal Barker (Wes) of Winamac, and his beloved grandchildren: Jaden, Colton, Beckett, Khloee, Parker, Callie, Paislee, Ethan, Hudson, Ayden, and Aliyah.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard A. Summerfield.
