Arthur "Jack" Jackson Fountain Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated physician, passed away Tuesday, the 17th, surrounded by his loving family. Jack grew up in Reynolds, Georgia, where he cultivated a deep connection to his community and the land that would later bring him peace in his retirement.
Jack was a lifelong learner and achiever. He attended Georgia Tech for his undergraduate studies and pursued his passion for medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. It was there that he met Linda, his beloved wife of many years, who shared his journey through life with unwavering love and support.
Professionally, Jack excelled as a leader and innovator in his field. He served as Divisional Director of Neuroradiology at Emory University Hospital and as Chief of Radiology at Grady Memorial Hospital. His dedication to advancing medical knowledge and providing compassionate care left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the countless patients he served. After retiring in 2017, Jack returned to his roots, spending his days on the family farm. It was here that he found joy and tranquility, reconnecting with the land that had shaped his early years.
Jack is survived by his wife, Linda; their three daughters, Jacqueline, Katherine, and Caroline; and their adored grandchildren, Eilidh, Euan, and August. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and his love for them was evident in every aspect of his life.
Jack will be remembered for his warm smile, his tireless work ethic, his love for the simple pleasures of life, and his profound impact on all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love.
The memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, December 28. 2024, at McLeighton Funeral Service in Reynolds, GA with reception at The Farm to follow. Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) here: https://www.theaftd.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/.
McLeighton Funeral Service of Reynolds is in charge of arrangements.

Kay Vydareny

December 23, 2024

I am so sad to hear of Jack's death! I remember him as a wonderful, caring physician whose knowledge of neurology made him the consummate neuroradiologist. I remember his saying that he always wanted to see the patient and find out his/her symptoms so he could understand what he was seeing on imaging. My husband, Bill Casarella, was always proud of the small role he played in Jack's "conversion" to Neuroradiology. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time! Kay Vydareny (former colleague at Emory and Grady in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences)
