Arthur “Gayle” Gowan, 88, a resident of Morgan City, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 1, 2024, at Ochsner St. Mary.
Gayle was born July 14, 1935, in Climax Georgia, the son of Wilmer Gowan and Cleo S. Gowan.
Gayle’s family was everything to him; he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild.
A familiar face in the community, Gayle never met a stranger and possessed a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. With an inherent kindness that knew no bounds, Gayle was known for his compassion and willingness to lend a helping hand. He found solace in assisting others and never hesitated to offer his support whenever needed. Gayle’s generosity and genuine concern for others touched the lives of countless individuals, earning him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Strong in his faith, Gayle was an active member of his church, Word of Life Family Church, in Patterson.
During his younger years, Gayle enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors. Whether it was hunting or fishing, he found peace and contentment in nature at his camp. Additionally, he had a passion for woodworking and spent many hours in his workshop creating intricate pieces. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were widely admired and will be treasured by his loved ones.
Gayle was very passionate about his green house, cultivating a wide variety of orchid plants with tender care and affection.
Gayle will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his two children, Michael G. Gowan and wife Lisa Hohensee Gowan, Mark W. Gowan and wife Julie Beadle Gowan; six grandchildren, Justin Gowan and wife Yvonne, Mark E. Gowan and wife Brandy, Nicholas Gowan and wife Samantha, Ashley Gowan Melancon and husband Travis, Kelsey Gowan, Carly Gowan West and husband Robert; 13 great grandchildren, Priscilla, Anndraia, Malachi, Aidan, Collin, Libby, Lanna, Jude, Greyson, Micah and wife Hannah, Gabrielle, Brooklyn, and London; one great-great grandchild, Jrue, and one great grandchild on the way, Millie Ann.
Gayle was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Wilmer Gowan; wife, Esther Collins Gowan, son, Mitchell S. Gowan; two sisters, Eunice and Jeri.
A celebration of life will be held at Word of Life Family Church in Patterson, Saturday, January 20, 2024. Visitation will be from 9am - 11am with a Service at 11am.
