Arthur Hamel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bellows Funerals & Cremations on Jun. 3, 2025.
Cumberland - Arthur Hamel, age 79, of Cumberland, passed away on June 1st 2025. Born in Cumberland to the late Maurice and Marie (Prince) Hamel, Arthur was a lifelong resident who deeply loved and valued his family and community.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Herleen Hamel; his children, David Hamel of Cumberland, Dawn (Hamel) Maguire of Smithfield, and Mark Hamel of North Attleboro; his son-in-law, Robert Maguire; and his daughter-in-law, Jenn Gaw. Arthur was a proud grandfather to Reilly Maguire, Jack Maguire, Jayne Gaw, Wade Hamel, and Andora Hamel and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his brothers, Raymond Hamel of Blackstone and Joseph Hamel of Ohio. He was predeceased by his siblings Pauline Lambert, Lucille Mann, Claire Veilleux, and Paul Hamel.
A proud veteran, Arthur proudly served as a Specialist (SP4 T) in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in service. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of duty, loyalty, and perseverance-qualities that guided him throughout his life.
A former truck driver for Imperial Textile, NEMF, and his own company, A&H Upholstery, Arthur possessed a lifelong knowledge of the road. Whether it was across town or out of state, he was known for offering detailed advice on "the best route to take." He enjoyed sports of all kinds-especially his beloved New England Patriots-square dancing with the Macoll Twirlers of Lincoln, and could often be found sharing a cup of coffee and a laugh with friends at Honey Dew Donuts.
Arthur was a devoted coach and umpire for the Cumberland Little League, where he spent countless seasons guiding young players-not just when his own children were involved, but long after they had grown. His love for the game, patience with each child, and belief in the value of teamwork made him a beloved mentor in the community. Whether cheering from the dugout or offering quiet encouragement after a tough play, Arthur had a way of making every player feel seen and supported. His steady presence, generous spirit, and dedication to the youth of Cumberland left a lasting mark on generations of families who were lucky enough to know him.
He will be remembered for his warmth, amazing humor, quick wit and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and community.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 9:00 AM from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saint Aidan Church, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Family and friends are invited, and may attend visiting hours on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.
