Arthur Melford Haugland, 83, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at Sanford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 15, 1941, in McVille, North Dakota, Arthur spent most of his life on the family farm southwest of Tolna, where he learned the values of hard work, ingenuity, and perseverance. He attended school in Tolna and Oak Grove, later graduating from Tolna High School.
A man of curiosity and creativity, Arthur had a sharp and inventive mind. While farming was a significant part of his life, he was always drawn to problem-solving, technology, and innovation. He taught himself how to navigate the world of computers and was a trusted resource for friends and family who needed help troubleshooting software, hardware, and satellite technology. His inventive spirit led him to create several devices, including the Boot-n-Air seed spreader and the Level-Shooter, a tool that aided satellite dish installers.
Restoration and adventure brought Arthur great joy. He took immense pride in bringing a 1927 Model T back to life, painting it a vibrant candy apple red. His love for aviation led him to earn a sport pilot's license, allowing him to fly over fields and wildlife, capturing breathtaking views and cherished memories. He never stopped seeking new experiences, traveling with friends and family across Europe, Russia, Branson, and Las Vegas, always embracing the adventure with enthusiasm.
Arthur's life was enriched by his deep love for family, friends, and music. He spent countless hours golfing and perfecting his game with loved ones. His passion for music was evident in his performances in musicals, his skilled guitar playing, and his love for singing. A devoted Christian, he was a longtime member of Sigdal Lutheran Church, where his faith remained a cornerstone of his life.
Arthur is survived by his daughters, Jodi (Mike) Crouse, Nikki (Brian) Crouse, and Tanya (Brian) Halden; his sisters, Evangeline "Vangie" Jarman, Junice (Jerry) Bryson, and Karen (Allen) Solhjem; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Margrethe Haugland; his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and David Jacobson; and his brother-in-law, Jim Jarman.
Arthur will be remembered for his unwavering faith, adventurous spirit, inventive mind, and boundless love for those around him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Sigdal Lutheran Church, rural Tolna, with visitation one hour before the service.
