He participated in football and track at Southeast High School and graduated in 1951. He attended Kansas State University. He was drafted into the Army in 1953 and after basic training was stationed in Alexandria, Virginia. When he returned home, he purchased his mother's lot at Lake Lotawana and built a home that he enjoyed for the next 52 years. He also was able to have his job back at KCP&L and work there for 42 years. He and his wife, Vicki were married in 1982. In 2009 they moved to Lake Winnebago and resided there till his death.

Bob enjoyed flying his airplanes and one of the highlights of his life was flying a Piper 140 with the Stafford family to Jordan. He sailed with the Shipe and Mc Fleets for many years. He and Vicki enjoyed skiing in Colorado and spending winters in Florida after they retired. He loved dancing and was often seen on the dance floor at the Missouri Yacht Club.

Bob is survived by his wife Vicki, sister Beverly Wickland and her sons Steve, Tom, Michal, and Tim Downing.
