Arthur S. Nielsen passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, at home, with his loving wife by his side. He was 94 years old.
Arthur was born on March 28, 1931, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, to the late Niels Christian Skalborg-Nielsen and Carla Marie Nielsen (née Bech). He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, Class of 1949, and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Arthur was a general contractor and owner of Arko Construction Company, based in Perth Amboy, NJ, until his retirement in 2007. He was a dedicated public servant and was actively involved in his community, serving on the Warren Township Planning Board and the Somerset County Committee, District 4. He also gave generously of his time as a coach for Little League Baseball and recreational basketball.
In his leisure time, Arthur enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening, and was a longtime member of the Raritan Bay Anglers Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Prevoznak Nielsen; his children, Mary Sue Gulick, Thomas Nielsen and his wife Janine, and Jack Nielsen and his wife Katherine; and his five grandchildren, Russell Pauser, Janine Moran and her husband Tim, Rebekah Rodriguez and her husband Michael, Grace Nielsen, and Erin Nielsen and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his sister, Anne Limbert, and his son-in-law, Lynn Gulick.
Arthur was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Martinsville, NJ, for the past 30 years. A Mass and a memorial service with military honors celebrating Arthur's life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arthur’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
