Obituary for Art Pekarovich – Son of Ann and Dan Pekarovich
Arthur Paul Pekarovich died suddenly on December 12th, 2022. His passing was as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Art's obituary was held back until after his mother's passing due to the difficult circumstances surrounding his final months, and the tragic circumstances of his passing.
Art was born in 29 Palms along with his brother Mark on July 17th 1955. The twin sons of Ann and Daniel Pekarovich grew up to both work in the family business becoming Journeyman heavy equipment operators in their own right. Art took that talent with him to Reno Nevada where he lived and worked for over 30 years. His AP Tractor Service business specialized in procurement and delivery of high-end landscaping materials for luxury private residences and commercial properties.
Art loved to entertain family and friends at the house he built on a beautiful hilltop in the Reno North Valley. Hot August Nights and the Reno Air Races were regular attractions for epic gatherings there.
Art loved fishing and boating and was a true westerner in attitude and style, with influences coming from his association with the Pioneertown area where his grandparents established and operated the Rimrock Hotel for many decades. Ann and Daniel were early participants in the development of Pioneertown's Main Street and many of the historic photos found in the Pioneertown Sun 'early days photo gallery' were taken by Art's father Daniel.

Ann and Daniel were close friends with movie industry patrons and founding members of Pioneertown, Russel and Mousie Hayden. The Hayden's came to host a series of charitable '4th of July Hayden Ranch Picnics', in honor of their daughter who was lost to cancer. The inaugural charitable event and several thereafter were held in honor of Art's sister Karen who suffered and later died from a rare form of Cancer while in her early 20's. Art's brother Mark was also tragically killed in a car accident one evening on his way down a treacherous section of Pioneertown Road. The loss of Art's siblings weighed heavily on him, as did the loss of his little nephew, Joseph, who died in the Landers earthquake of 1992.
We know Art felt the tug of those who went before him, including his father Daniel, and that he had hope for the day he would join them all once again in heaven.
So, Arthur Paul Pekarovich, YVHS graduate, businessman, and entrepreneur, walked up that stairway to heaven to arrive at a place where God's peace and love for his family goes on through eternity.
Art is survived by his Sister Cynthia Marie (Pekarovich) Bishop along with extended family and friends who very much loved him.
A memorial service was held in 2023 in Yucca Vally at the Joshua Tree Cemetery followed by a celebration of his life and his mother Ann's 88th birthday at the Hoover Ranch, Landers.
Art's mental health suddenly declined precipitously and despite the best efforts of family, friends and healthcare professionals, it was not enough to save him from a fate that happens all too often for those who suffer from this awful kind of disease.
Those who loved Art might consider donating money or time to any social or mental health services that may be available in your local area.
