Richard Hunter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountain View Mortuary - Reno on Sep. 30, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

On September 24, 2025, our family lost our beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and uncle, Richard Stephen Hunter. Born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and a longtime resident of Reno, Nevada, Rich lived a full life and was surrounded by loved ones in his final days.

In 1966, Rich answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served with distinction in Vietnam, was a Purple Heart recipient, and took pride in being a Marine throughout the rest of his life.

Following his military service, he married Dianna in 1972, and together they raised three children. Rich built a life rooted in family and community. He loved coaching youth sports-especially softball at McQueen High School-and cheering on his children's achievements.

Rich took great pride in his family, and those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, kindness, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He was easy to talk to, easy to like, and the best husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and uncle his family could have asked for. He will be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Dianna Hunter; his son, Travis (Rachael) Hunter; daughters, Summer (Kevin) Spiares and Serene Hunter; nine grandchildren-Carissa, Lindsey, Samantha, Kaylee, Oscar, Cormac, Cella, Indies, and Kena-and two great-grandchildren, Emmersyn and Wyatt. His legacy is woven into the memories he left us and the many lives he touched.

He will be laid to rest with full military honors on October 6 at 9:00 a.m. at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life and pay tribute to his service.
