Arthur Denis Ross, age 83, took his final breath peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. Arthur was born on September 1, 1942 in New York, New York. Art's parents, Arthur C. Ross and Regina I. Ross, moved the family to Texas when Art was a young boy. After graduating from Bryan Adams High School, he proudly served his country by joining the United States Air Force. His service took him to the University of Syracuse, NY for special intelligence language training. Art served during the cold war era from 1961 to 1967. During this time he earned the Air Force good conduct medal, special operations group commendation, and 22nd bomb wing distinguished unit citation. He was also a medical supply buyer for the United States Air Force and received accolades for his exceptional work. After his honorable discharge from military service, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he excelled in business management and early computer programming. He proudly took an active part in the civil rights movement and arts scene at UT.
After college, Art traveled to Alaska and moved to Portland, Oregon where he worked at Mercer Steel as an iron worker. After a back injury, he became an insurance auditor for Mutual of Omaha. In the early 70's he moved back to Dallas. He took IBM computer training and worked for the Department of Health. He also worked for Proctor and Gamble. Art retired after working for the Internal Revenue Service taxpayers center in Dallas for 15 years. This allowed him more time for the things he loved including gardening, cooking, his library, and time with his precious dogs Sam and Holly.
He had a vast appreciation for the arts. His acquired library is a literary legacy to nurture future young minds. Art was known for his warm, humorous personality, often finding something funny in many situations. His gentle wit, joyful spirit, and ability to bring lightness even in difficult moments brought comfort and laughter to those around him.
Arthur exemplified the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. He taught his precious goddaughter the meaning of serving Jesus by loving and caring for those they met. He grew up in the Catholic Church and always spoke fondly of his time learning from the Jesuit Priests. Art was an incredibly giving, and selfless individual. He loved to give from the heart often. He gave to numerous organizations and to all who knew and surrounded him. He especially loved to share vegetables from his garden, books, and any resource that he might have to help others in need.
Art is preceded in death by the love of his life, and best friend, Rachel; his parents, Arthur C. Ross and Regina I. Ross; his beloved dogs Sam and Holly Ross; and many close friends.
Left to cherish Art's memory are his goddaughter, Jessica Knox and her family; his beloved dog Mocha Ross; sisters, Jan Borg, and Gina; brother, Ronnie Ross; nephews, Chad Ross, E. Scott Ross, and Christopher; his niece, Lori; and a host of great nieces, nephews, and beloved neighbors and friends.
