Arthur Schmidt

Arthur "Art" M. Schmidt, 72, of Lockport, New York passed away peacefully on Thursday November 3, 2022, in the comfort of his home surrounded by family and the care of Niagara hospice. He was born on September 8, 1950 in East Stroudsburg, PA to the late Arthur F.P. Schmidt and Ann Smith Wilhelm.
Art was known for his stamina and determination throughout his life and found success in many of his endeavors. During his school years he became an excellent skier and won many awards for slalom skiing that led him to become a ski instructor. Art was an excellent body and paint man and was the go-to guy for the restoration of wrecked vehicles. He was passionate about cars, and found enjoyment in both driving and attending car shows.
One day he decided to change careers to underwater commercial diving and moved to the Buffalo, N.Y. area to begin the next chapter of his life. He worked for several diving companies before becoming the CEO of his own company, Underwater Consultants International, in the mid 1990's. He struggled and persisted and eventually became well known in the world of underwater diving. Art was able to give back for his success and even won a race car through a donation to "Lemons of Love." His success didn't come without sacrifice but he never gave up, never backed down and pushed himself to the limits. He is loved and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his son Arthur Schmidt, and his wife, Ann; granddaughters Savannah and Brielle Schmidt, all of Wind Gap, PA.; brother Chris Schmidt of Kunkletown, PA; and companion Margaret Matthies of Lockport, NY.
There will be a blessing service on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am to the time of service. Burial will follow at Middle Creek Cemetery in Kunkletown, PA.
