Arthur Edward Tate Sr.

Arthur Edward Tate, Sr., a plumber by trade and a life-long resident of Wilmington Delaware transitioned from labor to reward peacefully on May 10, 2022.
Arthur was affectionately known as "Tate" to everyone who loved and knew him. Tate was born to Betty Tate and Charles Mason on October 9, 1957. Arthur attended public school on the Eastside of Wilmington where he proudly lived and represented for numerous years. He graduated from Del-castle Technical High School in 1975, where he studied electrical and plumbing. After graduation, Arthur attended University of Delaware in 1976 where he also previously participated in The Upward Bound Program.
Later, Tate became a store clerk at Matson Run News Stand on the Northside of Wilmington, where he worked for several years and gained many friendships. Many would say it was his store. After leaving Matson Run, he obtained employment at DuPont de Nemours, where he diligently worked in their maintenance department for over twenty years.
Not ready to keep still, Arthur sought out employment at Home Depot where he enjoyed serving the local community in the Tool Rental department for twelve years. He spent the last 2 years providing cleaning services through ABM at The Experimental Station in Newport, De.
Tate was an extremely generous man, who would give the shirt off his back. Anyone who knew him, knew you could find him sitting in the backyard, on the front porch, on his way to play his numbers or trying to get to Walt's Chicken. On any given Sunday, you could find him planted in front of the TV watching his favorite football team, Dallas Cowboys, with a bag of Plain Herr's Chips and a Coke soda, all while we were frying up some chicken in the kitchen.
He has created some great memories and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Arthur is survived by his children; Sharniece Nichole Smith and Arthur Edward Tate Jr. (Ebony); His sister Geraldine Tate; His grandchildren Avery Tate and Greyson Blakeney; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many beloved friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty U. Tate, (2) sisters: Mary Lee Patton and Joyce P. Roane and (2) brothers: Charles C. Tate and Russell Tate.
