Our greatest father/grandfather ever, Arturo Salinas Estrada went to be with our Lord on March 3, 2025. He was living in El Paso, Texas at the time of his death. Accompanied by family and friends. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at Shakespeare Cemetery in Lordsburg, NM. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy and the Marine Corps League. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Mimbres Crematory.
Arturo was a lifelong resident of Lordsburg, until 2013. In 2013, due to his wife's illness, he and his wife moved to El Paso, Texas, to live with their daughter Olga Estrada and husband the late Robert Taylor. Arturo always wanted to move back but his wife's illness kept them in El Paso. On June 25, 2017, after they were married 75 years, his wife passed away, after suffering a second stroke. Arturo continued living in El Paso, Texas, until his death on March 3, 2025.
Arturo was born in Hurley, New Mexico, December 08, 1923, to Julian and Avelina Estrada. He was one of 6 children and at the time of Arturo's death all were deceased. He is survived by one cousin Rosa Altuna, several nephews and nieces.
In 1942, Arturo Estrada married Estella Medina. They had three children; Arturo Jr., Olga and Joe. They also had 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 30 great great grandchildren. In 1943, Arturo was drafted into the United States Navy, serving on a Destroyer in the South Pacific. He was always very proud of the fact that his fleet took part in the capturing of Iwo Jima, a major battle in which the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy landed on and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Imperial Japanese Army. The American invasion, designated Operation Detachment, had the goal of capturing the island with its two airfields.
In 1945, with WWII ending, Arturo returned home and he and his wife were reunited. He worked at several jobs, including the Southern Pacific Railroad and the City of Lordsburg, where he retired in 1989.
Arturo's interests were many. But his main interest was helping out anyone that needed help. He loved helping people. He also loved being around all his grandchildren. He was also loved by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. As Kayla, his great granddaughter said, as she spoke for all, "Grandpa Turie was a greatest grandpa and we enjoyed every story he told us and we will forever cherish them. We are grateful and blessed to have him as long as we did. He is going to be dearly missed.
El Figo Graham, Lisa's husband, will also miss Arturo. As he said" I am sure going to miss grandpa. He was my buddy and we watched many Dallas Cowboy games together.
Arturo is survived by two children; Olga Estrada and Joe Estrada (Lilly Estrada). He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren; Randy Estrada (Anna Estrada) Lisa Graham (El Figo Graham), Rochelle Morey (Lance Morey), Monique Lopez, Eric Lopez, Jose Estrada, Jr. (Paula Estrada) Deserea Estrada, Franchesca Estrada (Randall Robbins). He was preceded in death by his son Arturo, Jr. Estrada (Margret Estrada), his wife Estella Estrada, his parents and 5 siblings.
