Arvell James Willis Pickens Sr. was born on February 23, 1942 in New Port, Oklahoma to Dollie Jackson Pickens and Jim Pickens. Arvell grew up in the Milo Community and attended Central High School. At a young age Arvell accepted Jesus and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he faithfully served as deacon, sang in the choir and served as President of the Trustee Board until his health failed.
Arvell was a farmer and ran his own landscaping business, known as Arvell’s Landscaping. He was a hard-working workaholic. Arvell loved everyone and would help when called upon. In his spare time, he would fish, hunt with his brothers, vacation and spend time with family and friends. Arvell is proceeded in death by his parents; three sisters: Bonnie Colbert, Erriah Godwin and Irene Stevenson; one brother, Weldon Pickens.
Arvell departed his earthly journey on June 2, 2022, in Ardmore’s Mercy Hospital. Those left to cherish his precious memories are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Samuel Pickens and Shirley, Mark Pickens and Mazella; one sister, Arzelia Shannon and Earl; special nieces and nephew, Sharon McGee and Lawrence and Tiffany Newberry all of Ardmore; Five children: two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Pickens and Joanie, Oklahoma City, Arvell Pickens Jr. and Daniela, Fort Worth; three daughters, Ezette Pickens-Shepherd, LaVelle Luster, both of Fort Worth, and Megan Pickens and Jimmy, Ardmore and Megan’s mother, Rosie, eight grandchildren, NaTasha Pickens, Michael Pickens Jr., Kylie Luster, Jacy Hamann, Genevieve Hamann, Davion Scott, Aiza Scott and M’Kale Scott; five Great grandchildren, Angel Legan, Hope Jasmine Murry, Faith Jade Murry, Damian Pickens and Elijah Pickens; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends .
