Arvene E. Peckman: A Life of Love and Dedication
Arvene Esther (Halunen) Peckman, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Manomet on Monday, September 1, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 76.
Born in Plymouth on December 5, 1948, to the late Harvey Elmer Halunen and Shirley Elinor (Wood) Cravalho. Raised by her mother and late step-father Joseph Cravalho. Arvene spent her entire life in the community she loved. She attended Plymouth-Carver High School. She later married the love of her life, the late Adelbert Nelson (Tribou) Peckman, and together they raised three children.
Arvene's life was defined by her unwavering commitment to her family and her deep love for animals. Her passion for horseback riding was a lifelong pursuit, and she loved giving riding lessons at her family's business, Pine Hill Stables on Beaver Dam Road in Plymouth. She also led a 4-H club, where she coached and trained kids to ride and care for her horses, and would bring groups of them to horse shows. She saved countless horses over the years and dedicated herself to their rehabilitation. Even in her later years, she had and cared for a rescue horse on her property.
Beyond her work with horses, Arvene embraced life with simple joys. She loved spending time at the Cape Cod Canal, fishing with her husband, and she was a truly devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox. She loved to crochet for her family and friends, tend to her garden of vegetables and flowers, and watch for hummingbirds. Arvene found delight in the small things, whether it was finding a bargain at Rich's with her mother and then at Big Lots with her husband and family, enjoying a sundae at Kush Kone, or driving to Manomet Point to watch for whales and seals. But her greatest joy came from being a grandmother and great-grandmother, spending precious moments with her six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Arvene was also a strong and resilient businesswoman. She worked tirelessly to support her family, starting as a newspaper distributor for the South Shore News and the Patriot Ledger. She found her stride in telemarketing at American Frozen Foods, where she was quickly promoted to office manager, running the office for nearly 15 years. Her family will always remember her inviting them to watch the Fourth of July fireworks from her beautiful office in the Ocean Spray building overlooking Plymouth Harbor. Later, as the sales manager for Cape Cod Textiles, she sold custom embroidered t-shirts and bibs to clients all over the world and focused on WIC offices.
Arvene is survived by her three children, Michael Peckman and his wife Gail of Taunton; Michelle Wentworth and her husband Tim of Manomet; and Lily Peckman and her husband Chad Drinkwater of Manomet. She also leaves behind her six grandchildren, James, Haley, Christopher, Mistie, Sarah, and Jenna; twelve great-grandchildren, Katrina, Chloe, Kaylee, Evie, Lucy, Evan, Noah, Bryn, Kole, Nathaniel, Ceiran, and Jackson; and her longtime best friend Janet (West) Vieu. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews. Arvene was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph Cravalho and Gloria Luciano.
