Dr. Ashis Kumar Rakhit, MD, FACC, a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and highly respected interventional cardiologist, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Moreland Hills, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, at the age of 73.
Born on May 13, 1952, Dr. Rakhit pursued a life dedicated to medicine and healing. He graduated from medical school in 1978, embarking on a distinguished 48-year career in cardiology, with a special focus on interventional cardiology. Dr. Rakhit was known among colleagues for his clinical excellence, steady judgment in the most complex cardiac procedures, and his extraordinary compassion for patients and their families. His work in cardiovascular care saved and improved countless lives, and his mentorship of younger physicians ensured that his impact will endure for generations.
He was the beloved husband of 40 years to Jayati Gupta Rakhit, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, support, and partnership. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and laughter. He was a proud and devoted father to Mitali and Rohit, whose achievements and happiness brought him immense pride and joy.
Dr. Rakhit is also lovingly remembered by his siblings Sanhita, Ashok, and Anup; brothers-in-law Anjan and Ashoke; and sisters-in-law Monica, Bandana, and Soma. He was a cherished uncle to Ayon, Antara, Esha, Ro, Sharmili, Rahul, Ankush, Reema, Ria, and many other nieces and nephews, who will always remember his warmth, wisdom, and gentle humor.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Rakhit found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid gardener, nurturing vibrant flowers and greenery around his home. He loved trading on the stock market, following trends with curiosity and keen insight. He was passionate about keeping aquariums, finding calm in the quiet beauty of aquatic life, and he enjoyed following politics, engaging thoughtfully with the issues of the day. Those who knew him will remember his sharp intellect, his generosity, and the warmth he brought to every conversation.
