Ashley "Titus" Joseph of Atlanta, Georgia - whose curiosity, humor, and compassion touched all who knew him - passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 62, due to complications of cancer.
Born in Trinidad, Titus spent his childhood and teenage years in the suburbs of Chicago, where his deep curiosity about life first began to bloom. In 1998, he made Atlanta his home, building a life grounded in love, learning, laughter, and service to others.
Titus was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend - a man whose presence lit up every room he entered. He had a rare gift for connection: whether in deep conversation with scholars or in casual chats over coffee with a stranger, he made people feel truly seen, heard, and valued. His laughter was warm and contagious, his kindness effortless, his curiosity boundless.
A lifelong student of philosophy and religion, Titus earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Religious Studies and a master's degree in Counseling from Georgia State University. His fascination with consciousness and the mysteries of existence inspired his writing, including his self-published works Seeds: The Parable of the Sower, Our Curious World of Mirror Images, and I am 'Mind', I am 'Consciousness', as well as his presentations at The Science of Consciousness conferences. He found beauty and meaning in the symmetries of nature, seeing in them a pattern that shaped his understanding of existence, time, and space.
Beyond his intellectual life, Titus was a man of immense compassion and creativity. He loved music from all cultures, especially the soulful rhythms and classic bands of the '70s. He devoted time to helping his unhoused neighbors and found joy in crafting and renovating homes - each one infused with his artistry, imagination, and care.
Titus is survived by his loving wife, Alicia Fry; his beloved daughter, Kirta Joseph; his mother, Pearl Lynch; his sisters, Esther Cooley, Adina Hall, and Pearlann Perry; his brothers, Gabriel Collymore, Albert Joseph, and Garnett Joseph; as well as a large extended family and many dear friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
A celebration of Titus's life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the First Existentialist Congregation of Atlanta, 470 Candler Park Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30307, from 12:00-3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Mercy Community Church (mercyatl.org), in honor of Titus's lifelong commitment to helping others.
Titus's light, laughter, and love for life will continue to echo in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
