Atilano Arroyo Obituary

With hearts full of love and sorrow, we remember Atilano Arroyo, Jr., known as Junior or JR, age 57, who passed peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Junior lived a life rich in devotion as a son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and a cherished friend to many.

Junior grew up attending Brentwood Elementary, Lamar Junior High, and proudly graduated from McCallum High School. During his youth, he forged lifelong friendships while playing baseball at UHO and football as a member of Lamar Scotties and McCallum Knights. Junior also gained experience in the floral industry and enjoyed a successful 28-year career at Pikes Peak of Austin, where he developed many lasting professional and personal friendships.

Deeply devoted to his family, Junior cherished the gift of growing up surrounded by love. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, never met a stranger, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His piercing green eyes, radiant smile, and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know or meet him.

Junior had a wide range of passions, including tennis, golf, frisbee golf, poker, camping, hunting, and loyalty to the Houston Astros, Texas Longhorns, and Dallas Cowboys. He was somewhat of a daredevil, always eager to jump on his dirt bike and conquer any challenging course. His scooter was equally well-known throughout the neighborhood; everyone recognized the sound when Junior was riding, often making several trips to his nephew's home to give them a ride with Uncle Junior. But above all, fishing was his greatest love. Often prioritizing time on his boat over family gatherings, he found solace casting a line into the water-alone, with friends, with strangers, or in quiet communion with God. Whenever he was missing, it was almost certain he was somewhere afloat, lost in the tranquility of the river and the thrill of the catch.

Junior is survived by his beloved siblings, Olga Henson (husband Roy), Sandra Escobar, Robert Arroyo (wife Tina), and Debbie Arroyo. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, who fondly remember always having a great time with Uncle JR-John J. (wife Sarah), Joshua, Ariane, Ramon (wife Mary), Amanda, Melissa, Roy H. (partner Laura), John (wife Liz), Phillip, Sandie (partner Memo), Annie, Jacob (wife Maddie), Chris, Chasity (husband Mike), and Gaylyn (husband Sam). He also leaves behind great-nieces and great-nephews Caitlin, Sable, Vanessa, Major, Gabriel, Anabelle, Oscar Jr., Bethany, Nathaniel, Jonah, Adeline, Bella, Andrew, Adrian, Lennon, Elijah, Ruby, Poppy, Valerie, Maevyn, Evie, and Kataleya, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Atilano and Olga Arroyo; siblings Josie Martinez, John Arroyo, Jaime (Big Perm) Arroyo; and his beloved niece, Brandie Hairston Arroyo.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, from 5:00-9:00pm, with prayer service at 7:00pm at Austin Peel and Son.

Graveside services will be held at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 N. Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, Tx at 10:00 am, Friday, September 26, 2025.

Honoring their uncle as pallbearers will be John J. Arroyo, Roy H. Henson, John Henson, Phillip Escobar, Jacob Arroyo, and Major Henson

The Arroyo Family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to the entire medical team at Ascension Seton – 38th Street, 4th Floor ICU unit, for their tireless dedication, exceptional care, and compassionate support during Junior's stay. Your professionalism and kindness provided comfort and hope during a challenging time, and we are truly thankful for all that you did.
