Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fisher Funeral Home - Denison on Feb. 22, 2026.
Longtime owner of Denison Skatelands, Audrey Jean Brewer, 67, of Pottsboro, embarked on her final journey on February 21, 2026, peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She was a loving wife and best friend to her husband, a selfless and nurturing mother to her children, and everything to her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as "Meemaw." Audrey was born on September 22, 1958 in
Joplin, Missouri, to Raymond E. Capp and Barbara J. Capp. One of five children, Audrey was raised on a working farm in Asbury, Missouri, and was a hard worker from a young age. She attended Carl Junction schools from K-12 and graduated with honors in 1978. She went on to work at Hiland Dairy in
Joplin, MO, as an Office Manager and married Donald Brewer on July 21, 1979.
In 1981, at the age of 22, Don and Audrey purchased a former grocery store in
Carl Junction, MO, and converted it into a roller-skating rink. In 1984 they moved to Texas and built Skatelands of America in Denison (opened in 1985), which they owned and operated for 30 years until they "retired" upon Audrey's diagnosis of a glioblastoma in 2015. Denison Skatelands has now been family-owned and operated for over 40 years; currently being operated by Audrey's oldest daughter and her husband, Crystal and Bryan May. Audrey underwent brain surgery in September 2015 at UT Southwestern in Dallas, followed by radiation and chemotherapy treatments, and continued to live a full life, with many years in remission. She was also blessed with the opportunity to be 'Meemaw' to another five grandchildren born after then.
Audrey lived a life full of travel and adventure, having visited over 25 countries and 2/3rds of the national parks across the U.S. She walked the Great Wall of China, climbed the steps of the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, viewed Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower, navigated ancient Rome, cruised down the great rivers of Europe, visited the smallest and largest countries in the world (Vatican City and Russia), and most recently adventured through Ireland just months ago, among other travels. She loved crafting and was gifted in quilting, stained glass, and sewing. Gardening and working in the yard were some of her favorite things to do. She was also a talented cook and baker, who had a knack for making too much food for family gatherings, all from scratch. You would never leave her house hungry or without a to-go bag. She is well-known for her famous themed Halloween dinners where she would go all-out every year.
Audrey is survived by her husband of 46 years, Donald Brewer, of Pottsboro, her three children: Crystal (spouse: Bryan) May of Sherman, Amber (spouse: Stephen) Parenteau of Denison, and Brandon (spouse: Samantha) Brewer of Prosper; seven grandchildren, Rylie, Tyler, Lydia, and Kylan May, Jade Parenteau, and Sienna and Margot Brewer. She is also survived by two sisters, Rebecca Harl, of
Webb City, MO, and Lisa (spouse: Dave) Jackson of
Russellville, AR.
Audrey is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Barbara Capp, brother, David Capp (spouse: Marsha, surviving), and sister, Diana Stepp (spouse: Roy, surviving).
Pallbearers are Audrey's sons-in-law: Bryan May and Stephen Parenteau, grandchildren: Rylie and Tyler May, and family friends: Brad Wheeler and Dan Bramble.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2026 at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roger Speers, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the funeral home.
