Audrey Christopher De Jonge passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025 at her home in League City. She was born in St. Mary's Infirmary in Galveston on March 5, 1930, the daughter of John and Blanche Stevenson Christopher.
Her early years were spent living on a dairy farm owned by her parents in La Marque until the family relocated to Galveston and Audrey was enrolled in school. She attended St. Patrick's grammar school and then matriculated to Ursuline Academy, where she was a member of the Centennial Class of 1947.
After schooling, Audrey was employed by the Texas Gulf Construction Company. She later embarked on new avenues of life in New York City, where as an admirer of flowers, she apprenticed and then became the owner of her own flower shop in Manhattan, fulfilling a lifelong ambition. Audrey later retired from the florist business and moved to Long Island with her husband Jacob De Jonge, an importer of flowers.
Audrey is survived by her sister, Margaret Ann Christopher of League City, and cousins, Mary Ann Perich Gammill of Memphis, Nancy Perich Daly of Houston, and Thomas Perich of Houston and their families. As well as descendants of the Christopher family, Eileen Bentinck and husband Raymond Bember of Houston, and many other Stevenson and Christopher descendants throughout the country.
Services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church, 1612 East Walker Street, League City, Texas 77573. Memorials in Audrey's name may be sent to this address, to the Ursuline Alumnae Association in Galveston, or to the charity of your choice.
