Audrey Maxine Alcorn was born on April 24, 1935, in Caldwell, Texas to Elliot Elbert Alcorn and Callie Mae Louis. She passed away on September 15, 2023, at the age of 88 in St. Joseph Manor in Caldwell. A visitation for Maxine will be held on Tuesday September 19, 2023, from 5pm-7pm at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Funeral service will begin at 10:30am Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Interment will follow the service at Oaklawn cemetery.
Maxine graduated from Somerville High School in 1953, from there she went to Decatur Baptist and Mary Hardin Baylor graduating in 1958. She was employed by the Houston Public Library starting in the Historical Department. Maxine was manager of two branch libraries, Vinson and Looscan. She went on to Clayton Genealogy Library where later she became the Manager. In 1967, she received her master’s degree in library science from Texas Women’s University. Maxine became active in genealogy and became very knowledgeable in all areas. She knew where to look and how to find the information she needed. Maxine retired from Houston Public Library on December 15, 1995.
She belonged to the National Society of Magna Charta Dames, decedent of Austin’s old 300, the Colonial Dames of America, daughters of the republic of Texas, daughters of the American revolution, and American Daughters of the Confederacy.
Maxine was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sisters Gloria McClellan, Elberta Berglund and husband Bill Berglund, and her nephew Victor Paul Berglund.
She is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Alcorn Schumacher, her Nephews Brandon Schumacher, Keith Berglund (Joan), and David Berglund; her Nieces Susan Bayer (Don), Cassandra McClellan, Cynthia Meyer (Russel), Great Nieces and nephews are Lauren Berglund, Joseph Berglund (Dawn), Daniel Berglund, Danielle McClellan Rodriguez, Jennifer Langley (Wesley)
Pallbearers include Brandon Schumacher, Kason Bayer, Weston Bayer, Colton Bayer, Chris Bayer, Creig Bayer, Kevin Bayer, and Brant Bayer.
