Audrey May Pray

Audrey May Pray (née Mercier), age 83, passed away on June 14, 2023.
She was born on September 29, 1939 in Cambridge, MA to Edna McGinnis and Clement Mercier. She was raised by Harry and Willemina Martin in Alston, MA. In 1944 the family moved to a farm on Route 1 in Hampton Falls, NH. She graduated from Hampton Academy and High School in 1957.
Audrey studied nursing at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester from 1957-1960. She worked as a nurse in the operating room at Exeter Hospital from 1960-1977. During this time she met her husband Charlie Pray in 1961, they married on June 20, 1964 and welcomed their two sons in 1965 and 1968. From 1977-1980 she worked as a school nurse at North Hampton Elementary School. In 1980 she became the school nurse at the Seacoast School of Technology and Exeter High School, working there until retirement in 2001. Afterwards, she continued to stay on as a substitute school nurse in the SAU16 school district, much to the delight of her grandchildren.
Audrey was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She filled her life with people she loved and was a varied hobbyist. She was a skilled knitter and quilter, an avid tennis player, a dedicated bridge player and enjoyed spending days at the beach. In their retirement, Audrey and Charlie traveled often, having many adventures and seeing the wonders of the world.
Audrey is predeceased by her husband Charlie Pray and her brother Bill Mercier. She is survived by her brother Donald Mercier, loving sons Jeff Pray and wife Michele of Brentwood and Thomas Pray of North Hampton, and her adoring grandchildren: Carissa Pray of Baltimore, MD; Garrett Pray (and his mother Cyndi) of Elliot, ME; Callie Pray of Providence, RI; and Cassandra Pray of Brentwood, NH. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital, Portsmouth Hospital, and Langdon Place of Exeter.
A viistation will be from 9:30 - 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave, Dover, NH, immidiately followed by a memorial service at 10 AM at the funeral home. This gathering of family and friends will be for celebrating Audrey's life and so we encourage anyone who would like to share a few words to feel free to do so.
