Audrey Michelle Wood, age 22, of Greeley, Nebraska, passed away on May 13, 2025. Born and raised on her parents' farm, Audrey's life was marked by a deep compassion for others, unwavering selflessness, and a joyful spirit that left an imprint on all who knew her.
Audrey was her dad's dependable gofer - always ready to help, even at 5:00 AM, with a smile to support in the day's work. She was the best gate-watcher around and a master do-it-yourself carpenter, thanks to countless hours helping her siblings with home projects. She was always there - to lend a hand, hold a paintbrush, or to lift someone's spirits.
She was also her mom's go-to game partner. Whether it was card games, puzzles, or a lively match of pickleball, Audrey brought her signature humor and warmth. She had a way of keeping her spirited and competitive mom in check on the court - often with a raised eyebrow, a well-timed joke, or a perfectly placed shot that did all the talking.
Her love of simple joys made her a comforting presence: she delighted in baked goods, coffee, long walks with the dogs, and curling up with a good book. Her laugh was contagious - and when joined by her sisters, it could erupt into a full-blown, joyful ruckus that sounded like a zoo and made every gathering feel like a celebration.
Audrey carried a heart for justice, especially for those whose voices often go unheard. She had a keen awareness of the systems that shape people's lives and wanted to support the most vulnerable in society. Her compassion so closely reflected the heart of Jesus - tender, empathetic, and endlessly generous. Whether she was caring for animals on the farm, supporting her family, or quietly caring, Audrey lived to serve, love, and uplift.
Audrey's selflessness shone brightest in her care for her beloved Grandma Carraher during the final season of her life. Even as Audrey faced her own challenges, she poured herself into caregiving with grace and devotion. That same love overflowed in the joy she found with her nieces - snuggling them as babies, chasing toddlers, and being their sweet "Aunt Audrey." She was always the first to offer help and the last to complain.
Audrey was a beautiful medley of the best parts of those she loved. She shared her father's work ethic, her mother's joyful spirit, her sister Kelli's resilience, her sister Kim's drive for excellence, her brother Bryce's ability to craft and create, her brother Ben's strong will, and her half-sister Brandy's passion for equality. Her life reflected the strength, values, and heart of the people around her - and yet she was uniquely, unmistakably Audrey.
Audrey is survived by her loving grandparents, Louie and Mary Bauer and Bob and Nancy Wood; her parents, Brian and Mary Wood; her half-sister and brother-in-law, Brandy and Kyle Galvan; her siblings and siblings-in-law: Kelli and Ryan Helton, Kim and CJ Muller, Bryce and Moriah Wood, and Ben Wood. She is also dearly loved and remembered by her four nieces, Kyraey, Sawyer, Charlotte, and Ruth.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jerry and Joan Carraher.
Audrey's legacy is one of quiet strength, fierce compassion, and the kind of love that put others first - always. She is missed beyond measure, remembered with laughter and tears, and cherished forever.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley, Nebraska.
