Augustine "Gus" Gameno DeBarros, 80, of Mashpee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich surrounded by his family and friends. Born on May 28, 1945, in Barnstable, son of the late Clara (Mendes) and Amos DeBarros.
Gus was raised and attended school in Marston Mills. Gus left school at an early age to help his family. He was raised with 12 siblings and a large extended family.
He was kind, loving, caring, always had a smile on his face and was always helping others. He had a love for fast cars, motorcycles, fishing, playing dominoes and cards. He was known as the "Bid Whist" Champion, playing with his partner/brother "Joey".
He worked for many years in excavation construction and sewer water works. He was an excellent machine operator.
Gus served as an Elder in the Kingdom Hall where he developed many spiritual brothers and sisters. Gus was known for his kindness and calm ways.
For 44 years he was the beloved husband of the late Debra (Tobey) DeBarros. Devoted father of Augustine G. DeBarros "Gus" Jr., Kelly DeBarros, Shelly and Rocco Achille, and Anthony DeBarros. Adored grandfather of Alexis, Augustine III, Anthony, Alanna, Austin, Caylee, Alec, Aliiana, Abby, and Elijah. Great grandfather of Ava and Amelia, Dear brother of Domingo, Joseph, Feria, Arnold, Peter and Paulette DeBarros, Catherine Hendricks, Jeanette Tobey and Paula Berrio and the late Amos, Kenneth, Claire and Steven DeBarros.
Visitation will be held at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave., (Rt. 151) Mashpee on Friday, June 27 from 3PM-7PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mashpee High School, 500 Old Barnstable Road, Mashpee on Saturday, June 28 from 11AM-2PM. Burial will be private.
