Augustine John "Gus" Healy

Augustine John "Gus" Healy, of Laurel Springs, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025 at the age of 92. Gus was the son of the late May FitzGerald Healy and Augustine J. Healy of Katonah, New York. The youngest of five children, all of whom predeceased him, he grew up working in his father's grocery store, where his love of numbers began. Without the aid of an adding machine, Gus became quick and sharp at mental math - a skill that stayed with him for life. He attended St. Mary's High School, where he was elected class president and proudly captained the basketball team.
Gus went on to graduate from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. While at Villanova, he played intramural basketball all four years and remained a lifelong supporter of the Wildcats, following both the men's and women's teams with enthusiasm. After graduation, Gus served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Puerto Rico. He later built his professional career with General Electric, where he was a manager in the accounting department. His loyalty and leadership defined his many years with the company.
In retirement, Gus enjoyed following sports, keeping a close eye on the stock market, and spending summers in Ocean City, NJ. An avid walker, he logged four to five miles a day until the age of 90. In his final months he found peace on the deck of his Ocean City home, watching the bay, the boats, and the sunsets.
Gus was married to Betty Carter Healy for 55 years. Together they raised two children, Colleen Healy Simpson (Dirk) and Andrew John Healy (Katie Graham). He is also survived by three daughters from a prior marriage: Peg Healy, Patricia Mary Healy (Jack Tracy), and Mary Ann Hoffman (Doug). He was a proud grandfather to Matthew Hoffman (Francesca), Megan Nusbaum (Danielle), Daniel Hoffman (Jessica), Sarah Liddick (Mitchell), Jack Healy Tracy, Mia Healy Simpson, and Bree Elizabeth Simpson, and a great-grandfather to three boys, Silas, Royce and Cannon. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 10am to 12 noon at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE 126 S. Black Horse Pike Runnemede, NJ 08078. A memorial service with military honors will begin at 12 noon. Interment is private at the request of the family.
