~ Lovingly Written by the Family ~

With profound sorrow, our family shares the heartbreaking loss of Austin Layne Karns, who passed away at the age of 34. Born on November 23, 1990, in Joplin, Missouri, he was the cherished son of Jamie and Jane Karns.

Affectionately known as Karnzy, Austin was a radiant light in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. His untimely passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and countless others whose lives he touched with his warmth and kindness. We ask that you remember him not for how his journey ended, but for the vibrant, joyful life he lived.

Austin is survived by his devoted parents, Jamie and Jane; his beloved brother Alex; sister-in-law, Heather; cherished niece, Karliah; and newborn nephew, Landon, all of Joplin. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, and many cousins who adored him and shared in his boundless spirit of joy.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dr. A.L. "Britt" and Donna Karns; maternal grandparents, R. Andy and Jean Layne; and his uncle, Randy Layne.

A proud 2009 graduate of Joplin High School, Austin was a four-year varsity wrestler and served as captain of his wrestling team during his senior year. After high school, he attended Missouri Southern State University for a time and later worked at Sam's Club, where his dedication earned him Employee of the Month and the role of Sam's Club representative following the Joplin tornado.

Austin found solace and community at Journey Church, where he attended services with his brother Alex and his family, cherishing the fellowship he found there. His passion for history and computers fueled countless conversations, reflecting his curious and brilliant mind.

Above all, Austin was a loyal and steadfast friend, a fierce protector, and someone who loved with his whole heart. His sparkling blue eyes, infectious smile, immense compassion, and unwavering willingness to go the extra mile for anyone in need will forever define his legacy.

The void left by Austin's passing will never be filled, but his light will continue to shine in our hearts.

May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forward the love and joy he so freely gave.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the 3RK-9 Search Foundation at www.3RK9SF.com.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Journey Church Joplin.
