Myrtle "Maxine" Thompson, age 93, of Springfield, Missouri passed away on July 24, 2025 at Mercy Hospital. All five of her children and several grandchildren were by her side in her final moments on this earth.

Maxine was born on September 20, 1931 in Rockport, Missouri to Hadley and Rachel Lillie Clark. She attended Joplin High School. Maxine was married to Beauford Thompson on December 29, 1950. She gave birth to her first child in 1952 while Beau was serving in the Army in Korea. Beau and Maxine were married until his death in January 1990.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Beau, brothers James Clark, Bruce Clark, and Hadley Clark, Jr., and sister-in-law June Brewer.

Maxine is survived by her five children; Terre Henry (Mark), Pam Barber (Ron), Stan Thompson (Marsha), Melinda Ransom, and Robin Lenahan (Tom); grandchildren Travis Henry (Stefanie), David Harden (Kristi), Matthew Harden (Lindsay) and Erin Davis (Adam); great-grandchildren Ember Davis, Isaac Harden, Milo and Lilah Harden, and Haven and Holiday Henry; brother Jerry Clark, sisters-in-law Virgina Adler and Jeannine Clark; neices and nephews; and her beloved companion Biscuit.

Maxine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family meant the world to her. Family get together were chaotic at times but she loved to cook for everyone and enjoyed every minute.

Maxine was a member of South Gate Baptist Church. She was a homemaker until all her children were in school. She then worked for a number of years in the cafeteria at Eugene Fields Elementary until her retirement. Maxine loved her Missouri State Bears Basketball and was a loyal season ticket holder for many years. She was also a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and watched every game possible. Maxine was also an avid and gifted quilter. Her favorite part was cutting the fabric and hand stitching all the pieces together. Every familiar member has a beautiful quilt that will be cherished for years to come.

A private family internment will be held on August 13, 2025 at the Springfield National Cemetery with Nolan Carrier officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been handled by Greenlawn South and we are grateful for their assistance.
