Avery Elizabeth Davis, just 14 years old, of Rockingham, NC, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025.
On November 4, 2010, in Pinehurst, NC, God blessed Gene and Corey Davis with the most special daughter named Avery Elizabeth. Avery attended school at Richmond Senior High School as a 9th grader. She enjoyed counting and having books read to her but her favorite of all was watching other children run and play. When not in school, she loved watching her favorite shows on her television-Yo Gabba Gabba, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Blue's Clues and Peppa Pig.
Avery lived the happiest and most vibrant life. Even after 39 hospitalizations and four major surgeries, she was always smiling and laughing. Avery's smile could light up the world, and her laughter was so contagious. Avery's strength was unmatched. Her presence made an impact on so many people. She taught us that words are overrated- her eyes and her smile told us all we needed to know. Avery also had another side that most people never witnessed. Avery could roll her eyes better than any adult when annoyed, and her most recent display of disrespect came in the form of huffing. Avery did not like it when adults talked while she was watching her television shows. She became irritated and most often would huff loudly to get her point across.
Despite this tragedy, her family will cherish the memories they had together, especially her trip to Boston, Massachusetts to meet "the other Avery" and her family that was part of The Avery Project. Both girls were diagnosed with a genetic variant in the SPTSSA gene. As of today, there are only three girls in the world with this ultra rare diagnosis.
Avery is survived by her father and mother, Gene and Corey, her brother Trace, her sisters Kate and Paton, her niece Sofia, her maternal grandmother Julia White, her paternal grandmother Fumiko Davis, her aunts and uncles Candice and Chris Nolan, Lex and Vivian Hilton, Lisa Davis, Hal and Bess Shuler, Paula York and Donna Holt and her many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Gene Davis and her maternal grandfather Irving White.
