Avis M. Dixon (née Vaughn), aged 90, of Ocala, Florida, was called to her heavenly home on February 14, 2024. Born on November 20, 1933, in Ocala, she was the cherished daughter of the late David Eugene Vaughn and Bessie Mae Vaughn. Avis's departure is preceded by her brother, James A. Vaughn and her dearly beloved husband, Wesley "Dick" Dixon, Sr.
Avis was married on May 27, 1955, and had a wonderful, loving marriage for nearly 67 years with her husband, Dick. Her life was one of unwavering dedication to her family and her work. For many years, Avis served diligently at SunTrust Bank, and later provided invaluable support in her husband's courier business as a “secretary and assistant” during their golden years. She grew up in Kendrick, FL and was a proud, lifelong active member of Kendrick Baptist Church. She found purpose, joy, and strength in her faith. Avis' zest for life was evident in her love for playing engaging games, cards, and bingo with loved ones. An avid angler, she indulged in the serenity of fishing, a pastime she enjoyed well into the twilight of her years. She was an ardent "prayer warrior" and the loving Matriarch of her family.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her four children: Cindy Willis, Terri Large (Lee), Wesley "Chip" Dixon Jr. (Tami), and Kim Rose (Tim); her nine loving grandchildren: Rob, Reagan, Wesley “Trey” (Christianne), Kyle (Amber), Brittani (Roy), Dakota, Alyssa, Bethany, and Mark; her thirteen cherished great-grandchildren; and her adored four-legged companions, Daisy and Clover.
The family extends an invitation to friends and loved ones to join in a celebration of Avis’ life at City Light Church in Ocala, Florida, on Sunday February 18, 2024 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 2:30 pm. A private interment for family members will follow at Shiloh Methodist Church in Shiloh, Florida. Pastor Tim Rose will be officiating both services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kendrick Baptist Church, 3020 NW 62nd Street, Ocala, FL 34475, or online at www.KBCOcala.org. The family welcomes your cards of love and sympathy at 4081 NE 18th Terrace, Ocala, FL 34479.
