Avis L. Wells, 96, of Cattaraugus formally of Denlow, MO entered into rest August 19, 2025. She was born in Norwood, Missouri on February 2, 1929, to her late parents John and Mary (Getman) Pennington. Avis grew up and attended school in Denlow, Missouri. She was a soda jerk in Kansas City, Missouri, where she met her husband Paul E. Wells and moved to Maple Hill Road in Cattaraugus, NY. From there they moved to Porterville, California where she worked as a Psych Tech at Porterville State Hospital. After retirement they moved back to Cattaraugus and built a new home on Maple Hill Rd. Avis enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, knitting and becoming a long arm quilter. Her and her husband traveled to many countries including Canada, Europe, Australia, Switzerland, Ireland, Russia and many states in the United States. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Paul E. Wells, her siblings Susie Spencer, Ramona Reebes, Roosevelt, William, Julius, Elvis and James Pennington. Avis is survived by her niece caregiver Rose Woods, a niece Susan Spencer, her nephews Cecil Pennington, Earl Pennington and many more nieces and nephews. Relatives and Friends may visit DiStasio Funeral Home 478 Route 83, South Dayton, NY Sunday August 24, 2025, From 2PM to 6PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday August 26, 2025, 10:30PM at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church 26 Erie Ave, Gowanda, NY 14070. Please assemble at church. Interment will be at Liberty Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice Online condolences may be made at www.distasiofuneralhome.com
