Axel Heyman, (89), of Franklin Square, NY passed away on January 5, 2024.
Axel, was born to John and Ingrid Heyman, on September 2, 1934 in New York, New York. He grew up in Whitestone, Queens and attended Bayside High School. He graduated from Columbia University, School of Engineering, class of 1956. After graduating college, Axel joined the Navy as an Officer, as part of the ROTC program and remained in the Navy Reserve until 1967. After the Navy, Axel worked at several engineering and construction firms before joining the commercial real estate department at Chase Manhattan Bank where he spent nearly 20 years. Axel retired from Hypovereinsbank at the age of 72.
Axel is survived by his wife Janine and two children, Natalie, Tony and his wife Celia. He is also survived by his brothers, Roald and John. Axel is survived by his grandchildren whom he adored, Kimberly and her husband Kevin, Luke, Matthew, and Brandon. Axel is also survived by his nephews, Kenneth, Brian, Keith, and niece Dona.
Axel was a great athlete. He was on the Columbia's varsity swim team. He was a Jones Beach lifeguard, an excellent golfer, and a beautiful skier. Axel was a loyal, compassionate, and humble person. He inspired so many and will be dearly missed.
