Ayden Scott Hollifield, age 15, of Old Fort, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Friday, October 20, 2023 at his home.
He was born December 21, 2007 in McDowell County. Ayden was a student at The McDowell Academy of Innovation . He was a very smart young man who always made straight A’s. He aspired to be an engineer and enjoyed tinkering any chance he got. He had a heart for animals and being outdoors. Swimming, fishing, and hiking brought him joy. Most of all, Ayden was very loving and fun to be around. He was good with children, especially his cousins who he loved very much. His family meant the world to him.
He is preceded in death by a grandfather, Jerry Porter; an uncle, Wayne Banner; and an aunt, Brittany Burden.
He is survived by his father, Scott Lee Hollifield; mother, Ashley Rose Burden; sister, Emma Hollifield; step brothers and sisters, Summer Hollifield, Autumn McCarter, Wynter McCarter, Connor Berg, and Logan Berg; grandparents, Debbie and Donnie Whitson, Chuck and Lisa Burden, and Joyce Hollifield; great grandparents, Sue and Alan Moffitt and Linda Burden; aunts and uncles, Mark Hollifield, Billy Porter, Brandon Burden, Adam and April Lewis, Katlyn Allison and Angela Lewis; and numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Cherry Springs Baptist Church, 6 Bull Walker Road in Old Fort. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ayden’s teacher and friend, Pastor Michael Smith, will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.
