Barbara Ann Acree, 86, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Born on July 23, 1939, in
Granite City, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Robert Love and Frances Riddle Love. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernest V. Acree, Jr.
Barbara's life was marked by her dedication to her work, her family, and her community. An esteemed Eligibility Manager Specialist with the Department of Social Services, she spent her career helping others, embodying the compassion and empathy for which she was known.
Barbara had a passion for bird watching, a pastime that allowed her to appreciate the beauty of nature. She also cherished spending time with family and friends, always eager to share stories and laughter. A people person through and through, her sociable nature endeared her to all who knew her.
Left behind to cherish her memory are daughters, Connie DiPrima and husband, Tom, and Leslie Shields and husband, Mark; granddaughter, Macy DiPrima; a sister, Diane Dettwiler; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oman Funeral Home, located at 653 Cedar Road,
Chesapeake, VA 23322. A funeral service to honor Barbara's life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. After the graveside, there will be a reception for friends and family to further celebrate Barbara's life and legacy.
Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the joy she brought into the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed.
