Barbara Bednarz Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Barbara Ann "Barb" Bednarz (née Wilson), age 78, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Chesterfield, Missouri.

Born on May 27, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Barbara was the beloved daughter of John Wilson and Joan Wilson (née Stenhouse). She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Carl Schurz High School. With a passion for beauty and creativity, she began her professional journey by attending beauty school and working as a beautician. Her drive for learning and growth led her to Harper Community College later in life, where she earned an Associate's Degree in Business.

Barbara's career evolved alongside her education. After working as a secretary, she became the executive assistant to the Dean at Harper College. Her dedication and adaptability eventually led her to manage the Help Desk at the college-a role that reflected both her organizational skills and her warm approach to helping others.

Barbara shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Dennis Bednarz. Together they built a loving family that was always at the center of Barbara's heart. She is survived by Dennis; their son Michael(Sarah); daughter Denise; grandchildren Aiden, Lily, Gunnar, Caroline, and Keira; sister Jan; and brother-in-law Rich. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Joan Wilson; father-in-law Joseph Bednarz; mother-in-law Elizabeth "Betty" Bednarz (née Sweica); son John Joseph Bednarz; and daughter Dawn Marie Bednarz.

A woman of many talents and deep compassion, Barbara found joy in sewing and quilting-crafts that reflected both her patience and creativity. An avid reader with an insatiable curiosity for stories and knowledge, she also had a deep love for music and dancing. Neil Diamond held a special place in her heart, often providing the soundtrack to moments of joy shared with family.

Barbara had a remarkable ability to find humor even in difficult times. Her laughter was infectious, and she cherished a good joke as much as she cherished those around her. Known for her caring nature and unwavering optimism, Barbara always looked for the good in people and situations. Her resilience was evident throughout her life-she faced challenges with grace and strength that inspired those who knew her.

Above all else, Barbara's life revolved around her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence brought warmth into every room. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her heart-she adored them deeply and took immense pride in their lives.

Barbara Ann Bednarz leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, strength, and compassion. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her and continue to inspire kindness in the world she touched so deeply.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am at St. Zachary Parish, 567 W. Algonquin Rd., Des Plaines, Illinois. Funeral care provided by G.L.
