Barbara Karen Berkey, 80, of Goshen passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Goshen Hospital.

She was born in Muncie, IN on August 27, 1945 to John and Lorraine Shonk.

Barbara was married on August 7, 1966 to Philip Berkey, who survives at home at Greencroft Communities in Goshen. Barbara and Phil met while working together at the Indiana State Fair.

Barbara graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette and attended Manchester University and then graduated from Ball State with a masters in Elementary Education. She had various careers that include teaching 4th grade, managing SERRV International Gift Shop, Keybank, Sofro Fabrics, and many others. Barbara loved working in her garden and also loved her rose bushes.

Barbara was an active member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren for over 55 years and Phil and Barbara and family spent many summers attending the church annual conference and sometimes as a delegate. Phil and Barbara had the best time of their lives while serving in Morocco, Africa in Brethren Volunteer Service for 2 years.

Survivors include her husband, Philip; children, Michele Sonner (Brad), Overland Park, KS and Jason Berkey (Stephanie) Goshen; grandchildren, Emma, Andrew, Alex, and Kaylee. She is also survived by her siblings, Ken Shonk (Penny) Lakewood, CO, Lowell Shonk (Cheryl) Reno, NV, Anita Disbro (John) Kalamazoo, MI and Marty Baker (Jack) Burlington, WI and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, September 8, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.

Farewell Services will be Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Goshen City Church of the Brethren.
