Barbara Jean Bertholf, 81, passed away peacefully at The Village at Mission on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Barbara was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Jack and Marie Neal on June 30, 1942. She is preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister Betty Hill; and grandson Skye. She was a beloved mother of two sons and had ten grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her surviving family members: husband, David Bertholf; sons Sean (Laura) and Patrick (Heather); her ten grandchildren Noah (Anna), Jordan (Blair), Jadon, Hadley Monahan (Duell), Kyla, Asher, Silas, Micah, Oakley, and Blaise; her four great-grandchildren, Liam, Elliot, Finnley, and Adeline.
Barbara was many things: a masterful artist, an elementary school teacher, Sunday school teacher, a twin, a realtor, a landlord, a wonderful wife, mom, grandma and great grandma, but most of all, she was a child of God. Barbara would give you the coat off her back or her last dollar. Barbara loved to go to Estes Park, Colorado, especially to the YMCA of the Rockies where she spent several summers on staff as well as enjoying family vacations with her grandchildren later in life. She loved basket weaving, painting ceramics, painting murals in church Sunday school rooms, making stained glass pictures, and she loved to shop for antiques.
She was a strong, witty, steadfast, and ornery woman who overcame many physical setbacks. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Nall Avenue Baptist Church, 6701 Nall Avenue, Prairie Village, KS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YMCA of the Rockies-Estes Park.
