Barbara Leigh McKinney Braswell, age 84, of Walnut Straight in Spruce Pine, the Altapsss community, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025 at her home.
Born on May 22, 1940 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of late Sam and Irene Wyatt McKinney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Braswell who passed away in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Shirley Hall and June Burleson, her brothers; Albert and Phillip McKinney and her grandson, Daniel Braswell.
Barbara was retired from Baxter Healthcare. She loved to do cross stitching, work through puzzle books and she was an avid reader. She enjoyed gardening, canning and flowers. She was an animal lover and loved her dogs.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Greg Braswell of Stokesdale, NC, Danny Braswell of Spruce Pine and Carl Wade Braswell of Virginia Beach, VA, her daughter; Ora Dennis of Bakersville, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Private graveside services and entombment will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at the Bear Creek Baptist Church Mausoleum with the Rev. Buster Yelton officiating.
