Barbara S. Burghduff, 76, of Rome City, Indiana, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 1, 2023, at her residence.
She was born November 25, 1946, in Indianapolis to Arlo Homer and Mildred Louise (Young) Williams.
On February 5, 1972, in Stroh, she married Jerry L. Burghduff.
Barbara honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1977.
Mrs. Burghduff had worked as a telephone operator in Louisville, Kentucky, at a theme park in Fiesta, Texas, and had been a CNA at Shepherd of the Hill in Kendallville.
Barbara enjoyed collecting coins, drawing, and writing poetry. Her greatest joy was in community service. She was a volunteer for the America Red Cross and had been deployed to many natural disasters which she greatly enjoyed and missed dearly when her health no longer allowed her to travel.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Rev. Jerry L. Burghduff of Rome City; a daughter, Tammy (Roberto) Cantu of Harlingen, Texas; a son, Jeremy (Jaina) Burghduff of Rome City; six grandchildren, Joshua Freeman, Stephony Burghduff, Micah Burghduff, Mattias Burghduff, Uno Galang, and Aishiah Galang; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Linda Songster of Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Williams of Portland, and Michaelle Nichols of Louisville, Kentucky; and a brother, Greg Basham of Portland.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Brimfield United Methodist Church, 1027 E. Summitt St., Brimfield with Rev. Kathie Jones, Associate DS of the Northeast District of the United Methodist Church in Indiana officiating.
Burial will follow at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Honor guard services will be presented by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
Preferred memorials are to the Brimfield United Methodist Church or the Rome City United Methodist Church.
