Barbara J. Crowell, 93, Rockford, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones, on Friday, September 19, 2025 in her home. Born November 4, 1932 in Rockford, daughter of James Kail and Nell Rogers. Married Robert Crowell in Rockford on August 8, 1964. He died November 15, 2009. She worked at Amerock for many years and then American Greeting Cards. Barbara was deeply loved by her friends of the Bristlecone Brigade and was the neighborhood seamstress and surrogate grandmother to the neighborhood children.

Survivors include her son, Shawn Phillips; brother, Lester (Jan) Kail; sister, Diane Lawrence and her beloved Bristlecone Lane neighbors. Predeceased by her parents, husband, son, Rory Phillips, sister, Patricia Janakas as well as other family members. A special thank you is extended to Northern Illinois Hospice for the loving care given to Barb. No services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary, 111 N. 1st St., Rockford, IL 61107. Her family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel.
