Barbara Gates

Barbara Sue Gates, a beloved member of the community, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born in Monett, MO, on April 7, 1938, to her loving parents, Paul and Frances (Rockman) Gates, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Louvell.
Barbara graduated from Monett High School and later furthered her education at Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield.
Barbara dedicated close to twenty years of her life to serving as a Clerk at Wal-Mart, where she touched the lives of many with her warmth and dedication. Her passion for helping others extended beyond her workplace as she generously volunteered at St. Lawrence Catholic School, nurturing young minds and hearts with care and compassion.
A devout member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Barbara actively participated in the Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW) and lent her voice to the church choir, spreading joy through music and faith. She was also a member of the St. Francis de Sales Prayer Group in Springfield. Her love for children shone brightly, and she found immense joy in teaching and being around them.
Known for her community-minded spirit, Barbara embraced the opportunity to make a positive impact wherever she went, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness and generosity. She leaves behind a host of extended family and close friends who will dearly miss her presence and cherish the memories they shared.
In honor of Barbara Sue Gates' life and the profound impact she had on those around her, a service to celebrate and remember her will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. May her spirit of love and service continue to inspire others for generations to come.
A graveside service to honor her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett with Father Rahab Isidor officiating. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to the funeral home to help with expenses. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
