Barbara Grant Obituary

Barbara B. Grant, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Red Bank, New Jersey on November 14, 2025.

Born on June 11, 1935, in White Plains, New York, Barbara lived a life defined by love, devotion, and an unwavering belief

in the goodness of others.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Donald R. Grant; her parents, Carroll Brown and Dorothy Blakely

Brown, her sister, Dorothy Stitcher Orlopp; and her brother, Alan Brown.

Barbara leaves behind her four sons-Randy Grant (Caroline), Rip Grant (Carol), Ross Grant (Mary), and Rusty Grant

(Susan)-all of whom remained close to their mother throughout her life. She is also survived by her brother George Brown,

nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her cherished feline companion, Rosie.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Barbara spent the summer before her senior year working at Continental Can Company to

finance a move from the family home to her on-campus sorority house. It was there she met the love of her life, Don. They

married on November 17, 1957, beginning a partnership marked by deep affection, mutual respect, and a shared commitment

to family. Together, they raised four sons and built a full and joyful life in Richmond, VA; Framingham, MA; Greenwich,

CT; St. Louis, MO; Barrington, IL, New Canaan, CT; Little Silver, NJ; and ultimately Red Bank, NJ.

Barbara started her career as a social worker, and after raising children, reentered the workforce spending 20 years in the

guidance department at New Canaan High School, where her warmth, empathy, and steadfast support left a lasting impact on

countless students and colleagues.

Known for her generosity, humility, and constant care for others, Barbara devoted herself to her family, friends, and

community. She was passionate about cooking and baking, active in her church and choir, and loved to travel. She enjoyed

Frank Sinatra, cats of all kinds, and cheering for the New York Yankees and New York Giants.

Above all, Barbara treasured family most, raising her four sons and watching her family grow to include grandchildren and

great-grandchildren. She was, and will always be remembered as, the best wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother-

an extraordinary role model in every sense.

A service in celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at St. George's-by-the-

River, 7 Lincoln Avenue, Rumson, NJ 07760.
