Barbara Joan Hoyland Hammer, 87, passed away Oct. 8, 2025, in Kaysville, Utah. She was born the first of 3 children on September 29, 1938, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents were Herbert and Evelyn Margaret (Curren) Hoyland.

Barbara grew up in Hollywood, California where she remembers watching her dad play with his cricket team in Griffith Park, summering at her Uncle's cabin in Smiley Park, and practicing cello in her family's beautiful backyard on Gramercy Place.

After graduating from Hollywood High School in 1956, she won a chair as a cellist in the Utah Symphony Orchestra, where she played until 1959. At the same time, she attended University of Utah.

She met Keith Leland Hammer at a dance in Salt Lake City, and a year later, on March 22, 1958, they were married in the Yale Ward. In 1961, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Kaysville, Utah in 1958, where their four children were born.

In 1986, she moved to Hurricane, Utah, where her husband had built them a retirement home. A passionate and accomplished genealogist, she dedicated over 15 years to serving at the Family History Center in Hurricane and spent even longer helping countless individuals trace their family histories and reconnect with their ancestors. She served faithfully in many church callings in Kaysville and Hurricane.

She is survived by her children: John J. (Tara) and Mary M.; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and her brothers: William H. Hoyland and James R. Hoyland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her children: Mark Hammer and Ellen Hammer Ferdon.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1 p.m., with a visitation prior from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Kaysville LDS Stake Center located at 200 South 600 East.

Interment will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Hurricane City Cemetery, 255 East 600 North, Hurricane, Utah.
