Barbara Jean Hamski (Kay), 90, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on November 9, 1934, in Bedford, Ohio, Barbara was raised in a small country home where her family grew and canned their food and raised chickens. These early roots instilled in her a strong sense of family and an appreciation for the simple joys in life. At just 19 years old, Barbara married her soulmate, Norman Hamski, in 1954. Together, they shared 70 beautiful years of love and devotion. Their story was one of unwavering companionship-they never truly lived life apart and passed within months of each other. Barbara and Norman began their life together in the city, where they started their family. As their dreams grew, so did their need for space. They eventually moved to Chardon, Ohio, and later built their family home in Jefferson, Ohio, fulfilling Norman's dream of having land and farm animals. Barbara lovingly decorated their home, creating a warm and welcoming space where family gathered to make cherished memories throughout the years. Barbara worked as a secretary at businesses including Eltech and Burton Rubber, but her true calling was as the heart of her family. A gifted cook, Barbara and Norman opened the Hamski Concession Stand, traveling throughout Northeast Ohio to share their delicious Polish food. This family-run business brought joy to its customers and strengthened the bonds of love and teamwork within her family. Barbara was a majorette in high school and later enjoyed bowling. After retirement, she and Norman embarked on adventures, traveling across the United States in their camper during the colder months. She loved gardening, baking, and visits from her children and grandchildren. Barbara was the matriarch and glue of her family. She made holidays magical and was always there for the day-to-day moments, offering love, guidance, and support. Her family was her greatest pride, and she taught them the values of loyalty, love, and trust.
She is survived by her sons Richard Hamski (Karen), Ronald Hamski, and Robert Hamski (Stefanie); her grandchildren Brittany, Caitlin, Sarie, Brenna, Kaly, Natalie, Nicole, Michael, Ashley, Samantha, and Christine; and ten great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman, and her daughter, Cindy Moscato, wife of Neal Moscato.
Barbara's legacy of love, strength, and family will forever live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her. She was truly a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished always.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with funeral service to follow at 1:00pm at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Oh.
