Barbara Ann Handschumacher, 78, of Marietta, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2025. She was born on May 22, 1947, in Marietta, Ohio, to George and Mary Forshey.
Barb spent her career in accounting at Energizer. She loved reading, playing cards with her many friends, traveling, photography, and journalism. She was proud to serve both her community and her country as a U.S. Army veteran, a graduate of Marietta College, and a faithful servant of her church, Norwood United Methodist. A natural leader, Barb poured her energy into every group she was a part of and leaves behind a legacy of dedication and service.
She will be remembered most for her resilience, her kindness to all, her deep faith, and her unconditional love.
Barb is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Forshey of St. Marys, WV; her bonus children, Amy Handschumacher of Reno, OH, and Alex Handschumacher of Portsmouth, OH; her cherished grandchildren, Jessica (T.J.) McGlumphy, Seth Sebring, and Rachel (Gavin) Elliott; and her great-grandchildren, Ann Marie, Elizabeth, Mila, Mackston, and Kaylynn. She is also survived by her brothers, George (Linda) Forshey, Don Forshey, and Bruce (Barb) Forshey, along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Gary Handschumacher; her beloved daughter, Ronda Manley; her parents, George and Mary Forshey; her brothers, Bill and Steve Forshey; and her sister-in-law, Doris Forshey.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 64 in Marietta, Ohio. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family and messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
