Barbara Leona Haxton, a cherished member of the Commerce community, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Gainesville, Georgia. Born on August 21, 1927, in Acworth, Georgia, Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who touched lives of many through her work and her passions.

Barbara's career was marked by her unwavering commitment to service. She served as Financial Secretary with the First Baptist Church of Commerce and held the position of Secretary of the Sarepta Baptist Association for many years. Additionally, she embraced her role as Crafts Director for the Sarepta Youth Camps, where she fostered creativity and joy among the youth. Her leadership extended beyond her professional life, as she also took on the proud position of President of the Pilot Club, where her contributions were invaluable.

Aside from her professional achievements, Barbara was known for her incredible sewing talents. She crafted wedding dresses for many brides and cheerleading outfits for students at Commerce City Schools. Her love for sewing was matched only by her passion for her flower garden, where she cultivated beauty and tranquility.

Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Gwendolyn Kiester, and her devoted sons, Joel (Carolyn) Haxton and John (Gwenda) Haxton. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to fourteen great-grandchildren. Her legacy continues through them and the joy they brought to her life. Barbara is also survived by her sister, Rochelle Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews who held her in high regard.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Haxton, her daughter, Renee Waters, her brother, Gene Brand, and her parents, Willie and Mozelle Brockman Brand. The impact of her loss will be felt profoundly by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on January 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home, located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, Georgia. A funeral service will follow on January 4, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM, also at Ivie Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Grey Hill Cemetery with Rev. Wesley Dove officiating.
