Barbara Henry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Phillips Funeral Home - Vinton on Jan. 3, 2026.
CEDAR RAPIDS: Barbara Henry, 53, died Thursday, January 1, 2026 at her apartment in Cedar Rapids.

Visitation will be held at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street, Vinton, IA) on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Services will be held at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10:30 AM, followed by an 11:30 AM luncheon at the Urbana Legion Hall.

The only child of Dennis and Shirley (Schatzke) Henry, Barbara Kay Henry was born on July 21, 1972.

After completing high school in Urbana, she attended Wartburg College. She was an avid sports fan and was an assistant student coach for girls' softball and both boys' and girls' basketball.

She was employed in various fields, such as a clerk for a marine dealership, a photographer, a clerk and receptionist at a law firm, and a document translator. She was most recently working as an administrative assistant at PMX in Cedar Rapids.

Much of her free time was devoted to activities that honored and supported veterans. She was a member of the Urbana Legion Auxiliary and began a program of placing flowers on the graves of every veteran buried in all the local Urbana cemeteries for Memorial Day, sometimes at her own expense. One of the high lights of her life was her opportunity to accompany her dad on Honor Flight in April 2023. She was also a board member for DAV and assisted at stand-downs in Cedar Rapids.

She was a bright and loving 'people' person, a steadfast friend, a willing volunteer, and a dedicated 'cat mama' who cherished several during her life. Other favorite activities included fishing, fireworks display crew member, and racing car crew.

She is survived by her parents, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and lots of friends.
